Yeah, not so crazy. You just better have a bunch of screen real estate.
On a related idea but not limited to just Vray, I'd love to be able to dock the damn render settings window so it's not obscuring any windows. Similar for the material editor, layers, etc, etc. I'll feel pretty stupid if this is available already but I can't do it.

only way to have real estate in max is to either go expert mode, and shortcut away, or get a second monitor.
Other than that, you can hide (and call back) the command panel (will need the shortcut assigned to it) and every floating dialog (that's assigned to ctrl+').
Nothing you can do about the render dialog.
Which is one of the bitchiest bits of max, at least maxscript-wise.
