  • Light Cache number of passes (Auto)

We keep hitting this problem. When sending renders from a dual core machine (2 threads) to dual quad core machines (8 threads) we keep forgetting to change the light caches number of passes setting so the light cache calcs only use 2 threads leaving 6 idle!
Would it be possible for this to be an auto feature? Automatically adjusting for the number of avalible threads?

default is 4 isnt it? or is that just because i have a quad core?

if your implementing such an idea vlado, wouldnt it be a better idea to just have the machine with the most number of proc's do it alone and then distribute that data over the rest? thus saving power

as it is now - you often get the slower machines not even coming into the final render until long after the multi processor system have started, making it faster to do it on one machine and save the solution.

or (i remember you said it wasnt really possible but anyway) actually split the image over all proc's on the network for LC calcs. thus getting some speed advantage for DR
