  • max export to vray fomat for rendering

I did a quick search but didnt find anything similar so appologies if this has been asked for before.

We all use proxies in order to keep file sizes down but I'm finding sometimes I still run out of mem (2gb on a laptop )

What would be wonderful would be the ability to export the entire scene and then run vray on its own. My ram usage would drop by at least 50% if I could close down max.

I'm assuming this was part of the reasoning behind the standalone version so any news on whats happening with it?

Have you tried command line rendering? It's been a while, but I believe that essentially unloads MAX except for what is necessary for rendering.

Use the batchrender utility, export to a .bat file, and you're set.
        Well, of sorts.

There are some issues with paths (3dmaxcmd.exe is in the max root which is NOT set as a system path, so the batchfile won't find it. either add by hand the full path to the batchfile, or set the max9 root folder as a path in your system variables), and additional options for image formats, and cameras to be used, that can be added by editing the batch file.

A while back i could render some scenes with it for Scott thanks to the batch render, as i had only 1GB of ram back then, and it was unrealistic to try and render those with the scene loaded...

patrick, if you send the render off through backburner it does a similar thing to rendering from the command line. The instance of max that is opened is a reduced version and uses less system resources.
