  • exclude from environment lighting

environment lighting often plays a big part in my lighting setup. i'd like it if we could exclude certian objects from environment lighting. for example, i'm working on a reflective object and the lighting looks fine with environment lighting only. i'd like to add a dome or some plane objects for reflections but doing so obstructs the environment light. i'd like to just exclude those objects like we do with lights.
    thanks,

That is what "not visible to GI" is for in the object settings, seems to be a bit broke in 1.50 though, I believe I read that it is fixed in SP1

Doesn't the normal "Cast shadows" checkbox and the vray "Visible to GI" do what you need? Please explain.

hmm i thought i tried that and i remember it wasnt what i wanted...as in i thought it wasnt the same as removing or hiding the object...i'll look again tho.

If you use a dome light for the environmental lighting, you can use its regular Exclude options.

but isn't the dome light slower than putting a map in the GI override slot, and creates more noise in the render?

Not much slower if set to store with irrmap, if you set the subs on the light to 70+/- the quality of GI shadows will be better than the skylight with only a slight performance hit.
