  • Viewport rendering with Physcam properties

    Hello,

    Just a suggestion:

Many times I'm rendering with vrayphyscam, sometimes to find a good angle for a final shot. But when I have to move the view around, I have to select the cam object, switch to another viewport, and then move it. Wouldn't it be really handy to be able to set the vrayphyscam settings in your main render panel so you don't need a camera, and that it always uses those settings even when in perspective mode?

And maybe there are some more things I can't think of right now, but there you have it.

Lele has a script called "Anything to Physcam" which you can use to convert your perspective view to physical camera

Yes, but if you want to adjust it later on you still have an object to move.

work arround: with ctrl-c u can create standart max camera from any perspective view and angle that u create and like to render, but still intensity of the sun and sky will "wash" ur rendering - all white. So as I say before something u can play with burn value of reinhard color mapping, and set multilier to something about 0.02 ~0.05 till u satisfy. Then u can render out any view u like top, left, front, perspective, except physical cameras (will be too dark), if u wish to go back to normal and use physical camers, just set multilier back to 1.0,

It is somethng like maxwell - any view that is not camera is rendering with settings that u can adjust in main pannel of maxwell renderer - iso, shutter, f-number.

Vlado can this be added in future builds ??

          Photographic Exposure Control

Sounds similar to what Mental Ray has in Max 2008. In the Environment and Effects area, under Exposure Control, they added a new "mr Photographic Exposure Control" which I think works in the regular viewport.

My workaround has been to set the vray sun to .012 intensity, and work with the corresponding values for this in all other lights. The phys cam ends up having unreal values (iso in the thousands) ... but ... I can render in any view withought a cam ... and I can see the vray sky in the material editor.

Why do you have to switch to another viewport? You can still orbit/pan the camera in its own view. Also, do you not have to do this for a regular 3ds Max camera too?

If you have setup scene but for testing material/ checking model , it will be very helpful

wish there is just a check box under basic camera settings - get exposure values for active viewport-

Ah, I see. I will think about it, but you can just clone the physical camera and use the clone to do test renders.

Yeah, I just saw the preview render movies, so this thread is basically useless.

Usually its so quick to change viewports it's not something I even give much thought to.

Yes definitely there is always workaround , but easier is always better . Hopefully you will add this feature.

                          Thank you
