  • Mass instancing

I must admit that cebas' mass instancing feature impressed me very much.

Is it possible to develop the VrayProxies into this direction ? They are great, and anything like scattering them would open up totally new opportunities ...

V-Ray fully supports instancing even without proxy objects if you use the "Auto" or "Dynamic" default geometry types; so anything that can scatter instances in 3ds max will also work fine with V-Ray.

I don't really see the point of proxies with the dynamic/auto option. I did some tests with 100, ~500k triangle trees, and it was faster just to have them as instanced xrefs than as loaded proxies (the rendertime was about 1.5x that of the instances). Maybe it's the only option if you have limited RAM because of the added overhead in Max vs. VRay proxy overhead which is alot smaller.
