  • Override mtl -preserve bump-

    Hi everybody

I think it could be very usefull to add a "preserve bump map" option for the override mtl option(V-Ray global switches)
We use this option mostly for occlusion passes (vraylight mtl + dirtmap)
Occlusion + bumpmap (or normal map) is much better than "flat" occlusion.

I don't know if it's hard to do (I'm just an artist ...) but I think it could be a simple but usefull option ...

Anyone think it could be usefull ?

    bye.

    Chris.

Great idea - I run into this problem all the time. Also keeping the displacment (if done at the material level) would be really handy too.

How about a vray material filter (material type) where you drag and drop the material in the base slot, and then tick what it does and doesn't affect (diffuse, reflection, refraction, etc.).

        I think that's a great idea.

          Ah ha !
would really love to know where to find that thing because I have also always the problem with the material override that doesn't have the bump/displace

You can do it also in displacement with the displacment modifier wich is not impacted by the override material, like I do, it's even much better.

But I agree It could be usefull to preserve bump when using overide material.

For me personally just bump/displacement override would do the trick

...... what about a "preserve transparency" too ... for our opacity mapped leaves ??

                  Seriously, it could be useful.

I often use full 3D trees ans non occlusion pass, so for me it's not really necessary, but I agree it could be very useful.

Brazil already preserves the bump information for AO pass, would love to see this implemented in vray.

I can only do that for V-Ray specific materials (both bump and transparency); unforutnately the 3ds Max API lacks the methods to support this for all materials. So if this is ok with you, it can be done...

                      Best regards,

No problem for us, as we will mostly use it with vraylight material.
                          Thanks Vlado

and what type of specific material do you mean ?
only vraymat, or only lightmat ?
because I often use a darkgray vray mat with edgetex as diffuse map to override my scene.
And when want to preserve my bump or displace that I havn't put as modifier, I have to clone my scene and replace one by one all my diffuses mats to have all my settings of my mats with my new diffuse ...

could you be more clear about what can be done ?
