We use override with/without exceptions quite regularly. It would be very useful to have more control over which XREF scenes have things overriden - for instance, we seperate our buildings and our buildings glass into seperate XREFs:
Building01.max
Building01_glass.max
Building02.max
Building02_glass.max
etc
It would be nice to tell all Buildingxx.max XREFs to have a pure black material applied to them, but not affect all the Buildingxx_glass.max XREFs
