What about shutdown a predefined **group** of renderslaves on a specific job? -> RMB trayicon??

..or make these slaves invisible for a specific job and later again visible.

Ok, since I started the thread, I still think it would be great for me to have a pause button. And yes, I am working professionally, have been working in 3DS since release 1 for dos and have made my living from it since 1995. And since I am so very very professional I travel a bit with my mobile workstation and when hours away from any renderfarm it would be great for me to be able to pause a render to fix something in PS for example. But that is just my five cents to the wish list forum...Sorry for upsetting some users...
what's upsetting is that even though it's been explained many times why there cannot be a pause button you guys still ask for it

things that can make it fail:

-) firewall (i don't need a firewall on the rendernodes, what for?)

-) user permissions: i run every render service as admin, not SYSTEM, to avoid conflicts.

-) antivirus (i don't need antivirus on the rendernodes, what for?)

i had problems with remote controlling processes (psexec), but never with windows services. also, i gave up using mapped network drives. UNC paths just always work.

          Firewalls are off.
Every machine logged in as Administrator
No antivirus on any render machines.
All textures/proxies etc use UNC naming otherwise spawner running as a service does not work at all

Weird. Nevermind. SP3 DR seems more stable anyway, so less need to RDP and manually restart spawner.

in case you didn't already try that, you can modify each service to run at user level (e.g. "Admin"). The default setting is SYSTEM, which may not work well for rendering.

with psservice, the "user" running the service has to be specified:

psservice \\render1 -u Admin -p password restart VraySpawner

i tried this with win xp pro, windows server 2003, vista home premium 32, vista business 64, never had problems.
