  • VRayMtlSelect Element issues

    Hi,

I just noticed that the VRayMtlSelect render Element does not output an alpha for the material affected area, which would be very helpful, perhaps as a choose toggle.
And you should could Drag&Drop the Meterial into/out of it just like on every map/material button in 3dsmax.

why would you need an alpha from it? you can use a vrayAlpha element instead.

I guess you mean an Alpha from the selected Mat only ?

A workaround to getting one is creating a MultiMatte renderelement, set it to MatID and set the appropriate mat IT in the Material in question.

I second it would be great to get an alpha when for example we have a blend material (a mud layer on a car for example) and we choose on of the layer for the mtl select. We get a pass with the mud but no alpha channel...

I think a mat id will not do it right in that case...

The new ObjSelect Element (that allows picking objects via MatIDs and ObjIDs just like the Multimatte) allows for just that in raw mode. Tho i havent tried it with BlendMats yet

V-Ray does not currently support RGBA elements (i.e. elements with four components), only RGB (three components), so there is no way to get an alpha for the VRayMtlSelect element. This is noted and we will implement it, but for now, you can use one of the workarounds suggested above.
