I don't know if it's techinically impossible but it could be useful if VRay could avoid to completly delete its frame buffer if you switch on/off render elements; for example:
rendering a test image you forgot to switch them on and only later you realize that something doesn't look fine; render element like sample rate and reflection are very useful to double check what it's going wrong but if switch them on later then your image is lost, I know you can save it but it's more useful to keep it as underlaying layer and proceed with some render region.
