It would be great to have a Vray sun system like the Max sunlight system where you can specify North, a time, day and location and get the correct sun position.

cut and paste the vray sky map from the environment map slot to a vray dome light texture slot.
i think thats what you were asking.my bloggy thing - http://www.gav3d.blogspot.com

No, I was explaining that the daylight system comes with a premade MR dome light for sky illumination, but not a vray domelight, yet the sun has a vray sun in its dropdown list.
This is regardless of what map one chooses to use, though logically one would use the vraysky map in these cases, so it should be there as default preferably.
So basically, it would be "better" and "easier" (more streamlined) than building one separately and assigning a vraysky map.Last edited by trixian; 12-10-2009, 05:36 AM.Signing out,

when i choose vraysun as sunlight in the daylight system, i am asked if i want to create a vraysky, aren`t vraysun, vraysky and daylight system linked from that moment?Last edited by max montana; 12-10-2009, 07:02 AM.

Why would you put a skymap in a dome?
My thoughts were that the one very good thing of the domelight is importance sampling (ie. finding the brightest spots in an hdri map to favour sampling those).
Whereas the skymap has the brightest spot where the sun is.
I would expect to see no difference whatsoever in quality or speed between a render with a 1 bounce brute force GI (no secondaries) with the sky as BG map, and an IBL render with the sky in the domelight.
Am i replying off-topic here, or did i get the wish right?
Edit: in fact, the sky in the (full) dome, for 8 subdivs, is slightly faster, at the expense of more noise, compared to the brute force primary-only GI. I don't know if it's me, but the IBL is also slightly darker in the shadowed areas. It bears the question if IBL is using the same sampling settings as the brute force GI, or even worse (for me XD) if IBL can be compared to a 1bounce brute force GI at all
