i think that would be a nice feature.
nice for greyscale renders with glass or water.
a workaround i use is to save as a seperate file before rendering, and apply the 'override' texture to objects which i want it applied to.
then go back to file with materials after rendering.
I was thinking more in use a grey material only for GI and you could exlude glass and water,etc but get straight rendering then you can define how dark of light is your GI material......using the actual global overide material change the diffuse material and you have savethe GI, turn overide off and load your GI.
