  • OpenEXR Support

    Splutterfish releases MaxOpenEXR 0.9 !
It's like HDRI and offers a great new way in rendering.
The Source code is open and download able under:

    www.openexr.org

There you find examples and a PHOTOSHOP Plugin!

I think this will be a standart in the future. And ILM already use it.

Any hope Vray will support it in the future? I tried the MAX Plugin but it didn't worked with Vray.

    regards,

    robert

What do you mean it doesn't work in VRay?

Just rendered this test, seems to work great so far:

Worked great for me too! , there is a photoshop plugin now too, Does any one know of any images available for download( other than the samples)? When rendering to a EXR does max save extended light values? or does it always clamp them?

The entire sachform collection is available as EXR (my testrendering above uses an image from their collection)

well it seams that using the default MAX scanline renderer extra lighting data are correctly saved into *.exr image.
But when I use VRay render, then the exr image is 100% black

This could be realy usefull if we could use the IO plugin with Vray to generate our own HDRI / OpenEXR image.

V-Ray Saves out to exr fine for me , 128 bit doesn't seem to work, did you change this between renders?

                    yes it works now

I have generated one exr mirror ball image :

                    http://www.visites-3d.com/demos/vr/5.exr

that gives those results when you use it with enviroment map :

                        simply 100% white reflect / 0.67 glossiness/ 30 subdivis / fresnel on

and of course a wood bitmap in the diffuse slot.

                          Ok it works now!

The first images where all black, but I increased the exponent it look ok now.

ONLY ONE PROPLEM! How to open it in Photoshop?

I always get an error when trying it, are there any special settings needed?

Hope there will be more tools soon that support this format....

forget this, I found out that you have to store it in 24 bit mode... Else it doesn't work
