  • Opacity in SSS2 and BlendMaterial?

Hey guys... I was doing some snow on leaves today, trying to mix SSS2 shader with VRaymat and I saw there is no Opacity slot in SSS2. Is it possible to add this?
BTW, I don't know what you think about it, but it would be cool to have some option in BlendMaterial, like use Opacity from BaseMaterial?

    Thanks.

You can actually use a VRayBlendMtl material to blend between a perfectly transparent material and a VRayFastSSS2 material. I think the VRayFastSSS2 material must be the base material though.

Anyways, for leaves in particular, it would be better to use the VRay2SidedMtl material.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

Hey Vlado... thanks for quick reply. I actually used 2sided material for leaves, but on top of that one I wanted to reuse SSS2 material (snow) which I used for other objects in the scene. The first problem was that SSS2 doesn't have opacity map. Then I switched to VRayMaterial and did snow over there, which with opacity map works fine. The problem is that I have so many different types of object in my scene and I want to use blend material to cover almost 70% of them, so I need to create new snow material for every new material that I use in the scene... this way I am breaking instances from original Snow material, and I need to recreate opacity maps for every Snow material I use in blend.
So, let's say I create one general Snow material in the scene... and every time I use that snow material to blend it with object material I would use option "respect base material opacity"... so I can keep Snow material instanced and if I need to do one change on that Snow material it will reflect that change on every instance, but It will still respect all opacity maps from base materials used in blend.
I don't know if I explained this in right way, let me know what you think?

      Thanks.
