how about if one could assign priority values to the render nodes, so when you get close to the end DR picks nodes with better values if they are available and if the last bucket takes more than x minutes DR send the same bucket to the top best computers availble as a backup... sometimes the last bucket went already for several minutes that It may be close to finish it.

Hi Guys, I know there is a few threads regarding bucket size, and from what I have been reading it sounds like the issue of bucket size / priority is getting fixed, but in the mean time, is there a rule of thumb for how big / small the bucket size should be in relation to the resolution (or any other factors that may get affected by BS)? I've only just noticed the render time difference by halving the BS to 16x16 and it almost half's to render time! but I assume this is the reverse in large complex scenes?

This is a fantastic idea guys. Glad to hear it's being implemented Vlado. Had exactly this problem today when a bucket was stuck on a single area for about 45 minutes after all other buckets had finished.

I often feel the need for this kind of function as well. Sometimes last bucket takes ages if it happens to end up on a spot where a lot of sampling is required.

I'm bumping this topic. This adaptable bucket size at the end of render might be solution to "last bucket takes forever" problem. Isn't CINEMA4D doing this kind of thing?
