  • Vray Camera - Slowmotion Support

I would really like to see in upcoming release the control over time with Vray Camera. There already is a script which is quite nice, from 'Bobo- Maxtrix http://www.scriptspot.com/bobo/mxs4/maxtrix/#dl

It does not work with vray camera, and you cant submit jobs on the farm.

We need a camera utility that lets us time bend shots. For example, we have camera setup from frame 0 to 500. We want to slow down time from frame 100 to 400. This extension would allow us to create a time curve, how we want to slow things down. Then when everythign is animated, the camera renders the same camera movement in those 500 frames, but slows down the scene by the time curve. Frames:ticks has to be enabled of course. This would be very nice for future additions.

Any chance we can see something like this for 1.6, 1.7 or 2.0 ?

Hello , i never try this script, but it must working if you folow this way :

Instead of animate the Vray camera, you keyframe a standard camera.
Then you apply the script to the standard camera.
Finally, you link the Vray camera to the standard one.

By this way, the Vray camera is moving like the Standard one and the script on the standard camera influence the VrayCamera

Or, it must be possible to modify the script to make it available with a VrayCam no ?
With a little chance, you can ask to Bobo to change it if it's an encrypted script .

hi ghiom, i mentioned it here because just modifying the script will not be the right solution, i think we should have Power over Time with Vray Engine

You cannot link the camera to the vraycam, the script renders inside max and only the standard ones, also, you cant put jobs on backburner que, there are many disadvantages, i have a job now, i would love to render on the farm, but i cant, i can only render slowmotion shot with one computer, this is very slow,

V-Ray is a rendering engine, if it could help us render time on a curve instead of linear, this would be a big advantage, especially being able to render sub-frames.
I hope this will get on the list someday.

couldn't you render this sequence with a larger fps, and do the slowmotion in post?

          larger fps?
increasing FPS in max does not increase frames, just plays them faster

also, doing it in post requires rendering alot of unnecessary frames if you are bending time with a curve, so frames get rendered that wont be used -

I modified the original script to accept Vray Physical cameras.
Waiting for Bobo to come online, and if he's fine with it, i'll post it here.

if you set custom FPS in timeconfiguration->frame rate, it doesn't play anything faster, you just get more frames per second, so you get more movement "recorded" and can speed it down in post.

that is true, you may render out some frames that you dont need. but you then have total freedom to slow down or speed up wherever you want. and you don't have to render your whole animation with high FPS, just the part you want to slow down. i'm assuming you render out to stillframes which you put together in post, and not directly to a movie format from max.

                Am i totally wrong here?
