'split scan line' to exr

is there a reason why you cant render exr's through split scan line in backburner?
and could this be done in a future release?
and by the way, why is the option to render to exr's "hidden" in the vfb? (you have to write the .exr extension manually instead of the .vrimg)

They render fine so long as you render the exr files through the regular 3ds Max render output.
