  • More Stereo preview modes in the VFB

The anaglyph preview in the Vray VFB is great, but it would be good to have a couple more modes.... Interlaced would be very handy (with the ability to swap fields), and hardware stereo (requiring the LCD shutter glasses) would be awesome too (although i fear this would not be possible!!!)
Also maybe a few more modes for anaglyph would be good too, Monochrome and optimised colour would be good (Does it already do optimised?)

Yep, eventually we would like to port all of the preview modes for V-Ray RT into the VFB as well, but it's a bit complicated. Using quad buffers for shutter glasses is possible, and in fact it's already done for our internal versions of V-Ray RT.

The anaglyph modes are not optimized at all right now - they just extract the corresponding components and blend them together.

Yep i'm also starting to use the stereo mode
I guess a lot of us will as it starts to be very asked

We need a shutter glass output in realtime !
I'm actually using the stereocam modifier to setup convergence point, eye distance..... http://area.autodesk.com/blogs/louis...ifier/comments
It is really use full !

Then i use Kostasoft utility to output a preview to and active 3D screen (nvidia glasss...) http://kostasoft.com/index.php?mod=news&act=show&id=28

      The problem are that :
stereocam modifier creates left & right standard camera with a skew modifier on them. Vray doesn't accept them. And they are not physicaly correct

The only workflow i found is to setup the stereo parameters with both the stereocam modifier and kostasoft utility.
Then i attach a Vray camera (no target) to the std cam on which i've added the stereocam modifier.
I define the target distance, and eye distance that gave me the modifier to the Vraycam and the vray stereo helper.
      Then i can render

      Kind of a pain

Would be really cool if you could create a Kostasoft like utility that would be compatible with the Vray stereo helper !
Would be great not to have a helper but a modifier so we can setup different eye distance in the same Max scene.
Would also to have the possibility to define a "target distance" used for the stereo on a targeted camera ! Sound stupid but i prefer using targeted cam to animate them
Would be cool that all theses are compatible with Vray RT.
Would be cool to be able to render images sequences with vray RT ! (to preview the stereo in animation)

I ask a lot but with such a tool vray would be perfect for stereo render

BTW : with the kostasoft you can't play the viewport in realtime but, you can use the shoortcuts to go to nextframe

There is more work being done on the stereo helper for the next version, so expect some improvements there.

You can render sequences with V-Ray RT even now (in stereo).

Vlado, I was wanting to create a stereo movie in RT, but with it set for anaglyph output and using the animation script, it is saving single images with left and right next to each other. Is there any way to output single-image anaglyphs with the animation script?

            Thanks,

            -Alan

Not right now (since the anaglyph output goes into a completely different window), but there are a number of programs to produce the anaglyph images from the side-by-side views - if you search the forum you will find several mentioned.

Yeah, such as the one pointed out by Bruce Hart on this forum
