  • labeled element

    Hi!
I searched the forums but couldn´t find anything about this.
I´d really like if vray had a render element similar to mental rays labeled element.
Labeled element allows the user to isolate parts of materials.
It can be used for a lot of things and is a nice way out to create masks, since it only has the alpha of the objects with the isolated texture/shader instead of the whole scene.

There are many ways to do that in V-Ray: multimatte render element, material select element, object select element, material ID element...

    Best regards,

      Thanks for the reply vlado!

Yes, there are plenty of good ways to create masks with those, but what I was thinking was a bit different.
For example I could have a material which would have a bitmap logo graphic used as a diffuse colors mix mask, or maybe driving reflection glossiness values. If I used labeled element in mr, I could extract the logo bitmap texture as a separate element in the same render. This element could be used in comp in a variety of ways, like doing slight color correction on the logo itself, or maybe brightening it up a bit if needed. As a bonus, I also get a mask of the object with the material in the alpha channel.

Another possible use would be to render a coat material from a vray blend material as a separate element in the same render. Could be useful every once in a while.
edit: This can actually be done with the material select element which is great although the possible coat mask is also present in the element as just black pixels.

Another use would be to render masks from multi/subobject materials when there are a lot of objects in the scene using different multi/subobject materials and using material ID element would result all of the objects with the same ID showing up in the element.
