  • Option to override material effect id

Material effect id's are a huge part of creating matte's while rendering - however 3ds Max only allows the user to assign up to 15 material effect id's. It'd be awesome if within the VRayMtl options rollout there was a checkbox to "override effect id" then we could use 0-65,000 to create as many material matte's as needed.

Mockup below. The "Effect ID" spinner would be disabled unless the "OVerride material effect ID" option was ticked.

Thanks for the suggestion; I didn't realize this was limited to 15 in the interface; internally V-Ray can work with any 32-bit integer for this, so it should not be hard to implement.

That's great to hear! Hopefully that turns out to be the case - it'd be a huge improvement for our workflow and I suspect for many other studios too.

This will be fantastic! Thanks for the suggestion Christopher! And thanks to Vlado for implementing this!

This will be a huge time saver for us and we can now fully get away from object IDs.

This sounds great! Is there a new build of VRay 1.5 with this implemented, or will I need to wait until 2.0 is released? Many thanks.

Right now this is only in V-Ray 2.0; the 1.5 branch only gets bug fixes.

                Best regards,

Perfect, thanks to christopher for the incentive and thanks to vlado for fixing it fast!!!
I was waiting for a long time for a possibility to get more than 15 mat id`s.

Ha, only just discovered this feature! Perfect! I have been running out at 15 and starting on object ids, ever again!

To confirm, you simply leave all the 3dsmax material effects id at 0 and number them all up through the option, overide material effect tick box?

                    Perfect again!

                        This is correct, yes.
