  • GI Light select element

    Hi there,

The new Light_select feature is really cool. Big thanks for this! The downside of this, as you know, is that GI is still computed globally for all lights. Would it be possible to have a GI_Light_Select Element? So that you can also break down the GI for single lights? That would be the ultimat control for compositing...

+1 on this and please consider implementing this into Maya, too.
    always curious...

It is a tricky thing to implement... we will see though

      Best regards,

Just out of curiosity, why this feature is kinda native in Maxwell while a bit tricky to implement in Vray? Is it because Maxwell is natively unbaised or they got their own proporietary technology?

Neither. It is because of the particular method that Maxwell uses to calculate the image (bi-directional path tracing), which allows to easily separate the contributions of different lights. The VRayBPTracer in V-Ray 2.0 uses a similar algorithm and in the next update it will be able to separate the entire contribution of lights (there was not enough time to implement this for the original V-Ray 2.0 release).

I was thinking to bring up the point of whether the improved bi-directional path tracing in Vray 2.0 will help on solving this in previous post and there goes!
Awesome! Hearing this confirmation from you makes my day. Hope it won't be particular difficult to implement this feature in Vray for Maya 2.0.

Thanks Vlado and the dev. team!!
