  • Override material "Exclude by layer..."

    Hi Vlado,

Can we get the ability to set global override material excludes by layer?

Would be very useful for us...

    Thanks,
    Olly

I'd like to bring this thread back to life. An option to include / exclude by layer would be a great addition to the override mtl Global Switches. I often have scenes that are x-referenced with no way to control override parameters without merging.

Sounds like a great idea - I had forgotten I even came up with it!

It's somewhere on the "to do" list.

        Best regards,
        Vlado

In the mean time you can maybe use this script of Dave Wortley, it doens't exclude layers but there are a few features that might come in handy. Maybe give him a nudge to update the script to exclude layers.

Yes I remember that now. I'm not 100% sure, and Dave will have to comment, but I really need a setup where I can set it all up, get it into Deadline, and keep restarting the job when geom changes. But that script could work in the short term until its in Vray.

Good lord Dave, get some sleep! I will break/I mean test it now!!

So I know in advance, does this work only when the script is open and rendered locally, or can this be stuck in Deadline and work ok when xref scenes are updated?

Many thanks, I owe you at least one beer!

PS I cant find the download for it?

It's not finished yet, that's why you can't find a download link

I've got a few known bugs to get rid of first and some interface bits to finish.

It works locally in the scene you're working on if you have the script installed, I need to see about how it'll work on render blades, the nice thing with XRefs you could update an XRef and you wouldn't need to adjust your include/exclude as it'd happen automatically.

We might even be able to ask VRay very nicely to open my interface rather than the old max one....

That's exactly what I'd like. So you can setup the override once and exclude the various xref scenes, submit them all and restart each time the geom changes.

Happy to test heavily once ready!

                          Hi Dave,

Hope you had a good trip last week, I've been there myself for Honeymoon, amazing place.

Now just a small nudge!! I'm sure Vlado will work his magic when time allows, but if your script could do the same for the short term, and more advanced for certain features that will not make Vray, then I'm keen to try it out.
