  • Remove DR Slave mid render

Would be nice to be able to remove a slave or number of slaves mid render.

    Scenario:
Artists A, B and C are rendering stills, using DR slaves 1st come 1st serve basis. But now something urgent needs to be rendered by C but B is already using all slaves and A is already rendering and waiting for slaves which will automatically kick in when B is finished. C can just ask B to remove 2 slaves or whatever so he can get the urgent thing out quicker. etc
    Kind Regards,
    Morne

I guess this would be more in the lines of creating a manager for DR jobs with proper priorities and so on.

    Best regards,

      I'd love something like this!

I've always wanted a manager that could launch either max for single frames or DRspawner. It would be so convenient to the farm be able to handle either type of job without manually starting and stopping Backburner and DRspawner. I mean you could run both at the same time...but its really easy to run into conflicts that way.

Another reason for a new manager is one that supports the V-ray render settings. If you screw up a single V-ray setting your only option with backburner is to cancel the job and submit a new one. It would be much more convenient to be able to fix that one setting and hit restart. And it would likely not have that 600minute timeout thing (unless that's fixed in the latest version...but knowing Autodesk that's unlikely)

When assigning the jog through Backburner click on the Advanced button at the bottom
          - TICK the ENABLE check-box under Per job timeouts

Now you can set what ever job timeout value you want. [Set it to 6,000,000 if you want...lol]

NOTE*** Unless you tick the ENABLE check box Backburner will ALWAYS default to the 600 min limit

Hope this helps you finish your unfinished renders now

          Cheers

I know about that. There is a bug in which the manager will simply ignore your value and go back to the 600 minute default. Its possible its fixed now (I'm not using the latest version). However people complained for years on the forums and Autodesk did nothing about it.

I think that has been fixed for a while now - it hasn't happened to me in a long while.
