  • Shave and a Haircut compatibility

    Hi,

I'd love to see VRay flawlessly rendering hair/grass/etc. created with the recently published official release version of Shave and a Haircut.

    Cheers,

    Yes
ive been thinking about buying this plugin
but wanted to wait to see if it was compatable with vray.
since it was coded by the fishes,
i presume vray doesnt have a copy of shave and a haircut
and splutterfish dont have a copy of vray.
Unless of course you guys get along famously?

I read this in an announcement on the web:

"Joe Alter's Shave and a Haircut is a hair system from Joe Alter that Splutterfish has ported to Discreet's 3ds max. Shave couples an easy and intuitive 'styling/combing' interface with a powerful capability to render the highest-quality imagery. Shave's natural workflow enables artists to quickly 'grow' and 'comb' hair, easily change shader properties, apply dynamics, and render. Shave integrates easily into 3ds max's default renderer, or a third-party renderer, and frees the artist from any technology-imposed confines."

This implies that Shave and a Haircut should work fine with VRay as well. Vlado? Peter? Tedi? Anyone?

The current Shave and a Haircut implementation in max 7.5 has nothing to do with Splutterfish.

On the Splutterfish forum Scott Kirvan writes:
"This version of the shave code is not in any way related to or includes any splutterfish code. We have standards."

ouch...Id heard this plugin had created a sticky situation between some people...more evidence of that rumor....

if you go here, and look at the archived news, it would appear splutterfish was originally knee deep in it but then something changed.

perhaps splutter people wanted to get credit for implementing snh into max but discreet took it and implemented it themself thus rendering splutter fish aside....and non creditable...haha

                      not really,

splutterfish made a port for max, but the libraries/code they got from joe alter was timelimited (timebombed) and ran out in the beta phase (when a lot of people were already testing it)
while this might be common when youre working with other parties code, things became difficult later on
they got into arguments over licensing issues with joe alter - and had to stop the developement - a lot of the testers/people interested in shave started shouting at splutterfish because they didnt know about the licensing problems

guess they are still pissed off bigtime...
you can read it up in the splutterfish/brazil forums

Whats your oppinion on Ornatrix compared to Shave and Haircut.

I had the feeling its implemention via modifiers was somewhat more intuitive, and the brushtools functioned directly inside of the maxviewport.
Moreover it had a implementation of Vray which would solve all those problems if it makes comparable results.

well...when i tried it the vray plugins didnt work probably because they were outof date. But, It seemed it had potential. All tho I have heard that stability wise its buggy.
