  • Cooperative DR when calculating IRmap

Currently when you run a distributive rendering where the IRmap needs to be calculated first, each server has to figure out the solution by itself before it can start contributing to rendering the image.

For example, you have 2 servers working on a DR job without a presaved IRmap, A is fast, B is slow. A gets done with the IRmap and starts cranking away on the image. Poor B machine is trying to finish the same job that A already finished. Is a bummer when A finishes the rendering and B wasn't even able to help.

It would be cool if A and B could work together on the same IRmap, or at least, who ever gets done first sends the solution to the other servers so that they can start rendering.

The VRay documentation says that this will be addressed some day. Has anyone heard when?

Yes that would be great. the only way to get all your workstations to work on the same image right from the beginning is not to use irradiance map but the "quasi montecarlo algorithm) this method brings also much more detailed results in the smal details but usualy is much to slow for big scenes (especialy interiors).

I wonder if the Final Render GI Image algorithm is able to spread the work over all your workstations right from the beginning. if it was so, it could be faster than vray in this point.

so distributet irradiance rendering would realy be a big time saver.
