  • multimatte by selection set

I'd like to be able to create multimattes based on selection sets. The current method of using object id's or material fx id's works great most of the time but there are instances where I have a whole bunch of objects I need to created a matte for and those two methods don't work.

I know I could do it by adding an extratexture render element but it would be great to add this to the multimatte element if possible so these mattes could stay in the 3 color context of multimatte. seems like it would be more efficient.

Perhaps my MultiMatte Generator script can help...
    www.dpict3d.com - "That's a very nice rendering, Dave. I think you've improved a great deal." - HAL9000... At least I have one fan.

the big problem is I need to preserve my object id's because I'm using them with the vraymultisubobject texture map.

Vlado had mentioned something about this since the material id can only go up to 16 in the max ui - perhaps he could add something else in to the vray properties to cover this?

yes I was thinking maybe there should be a specific matte channel id in addition to but independent of the object id.

A better solution might be to directly provide include lists in the Multimatte element (one for the red/green/blue values), which would allow you to specify which particular scene nodes you want included, without IDs or whatever.
