  • Any word on a printed manual or tutorials with future vers?

    Hey guys,

I absolutely love the work you guys are doing with Vray and I amazed at the quality of some of the renders on this forum. Having installed the demo version of Vray several times and read the included manual a countless number of times, I am still at a complete loss with this renderer. I have checked out the tutorials at Vray-info, but while many of these tutorials show you how to do stuff they don't explain why you have to do it.

Case in point is the sklylight portals. I tried illuminating an exterior scene using the Vray overide environment and a standard max sunlight system. The exterior of the scene rendered out OK, but the interior of the building was almost totally black. I was told to try adding in a sklylight portal to allow light in, but I never could figure out where to place the portal; in front of the window, behind the window, in the center of the window frame? Also, as a new user I find the material editor bewildering, and I don't feel the included manual goes near far enough to explain how to create more complex materials. For the life of me, I still have not been able to figure out how to create a simple opacity mapped texture using the Vray material. Frustrated, I once again went back to the standard Viz renderer.

From what I have read this is an incredibly powerful plugin render, but I can't help that Chaos Software is missing out on a lot of potential customers like myself who are afraid to purchase a plugin without a complete set of documentation and tutorials explaining how the features work. As useful as these forums are, personally I would like to have a nice fat manual to refer back to when I am having a problem rather than haivng to logon to the net and wait for a response with each issue.

Anyways, Vlado, if you have got such an improved manual or set of tutorials in the works for the next version, let me know and I will be one of the first ones to buy it! Cheers,
Working...
