  • Zdepth Reflections

Could there possibly be an option that we could have reflection information on zdepth so we would get blurred reflections according to distance of objects.
What i mean is we do have now distance on zdepth for objects we see in diffuse but not those that reflect on the surfaces we see.

Could maybe someone shed some light on this or if there already is a way of doing this with combining zdepth and a reflection pass or whatever?

    cheers

If you do it in-render with a Vray Physical Camera, then it will look correct in the reflection. Doing it in post is awkward as you need to seperate out all the elements and even then, even if you did do a zdepth reflection pass (which is possible but complicated to set up) the blurring would not correct.

Exactly - say you have a flat object that's sharp in your render, but you were trying to do zdepth on it's reflections, the compositor wouldn't be able to cut off the blurred out reflections at the borders of the sharp object as it should. Zdepth is too simple a system for this type of thing. You could achieve it but you'd need to do an awful lot of custom passes and mattes to control areas of the reflections blurring out.
