  • HairInfoTex + hairfarm

    Hey Vlado,

It would be great if you could get the hairinfotex map to work with hairfarm if possible? I know you guys are doing some development to get the integration with Vray better which is great so maybe you can add this to the list.

The VraySamplerInfoTex pass is already really helpful and works for generating normals passes (attached).

    Cheers,

    Mark

Hm, it should work fine already... which part is a problem for you?

    Best regards,

      Hey Vlado,

for some reason the HairInfoTex root to tip mapping doesn't appear to work. I know that the hairs from hairfarm are mapped in VW as opposed to UV space but i can't control that through the HairInfoTex. I guess i could map the Color A and B channels and change the mapping in here. Ill give that a go and let you know.

      Cheers,

Ah, HairFarm, sorry - mind's wandering. Unfortunately we can't make that work with HairFarm's native rendering - you'll have to ask the HairFarm developers to provide you with a texture that offers similar functionality. However, we are working on native support for HairFarm and in that case it will work normally when rendered with V-Ray primitives.

        Best regards,
        Vlado

Great news. Will it be a buffered approach to feed more lighting / shading info to hair farm or will hair farm render as some kind of native vray csg primitive?

It is done in pretty much the same way as we did it for the Hair&Fur and Ornatrix plugins, using the native V-Ray hair primitives.

Ah perfect, so no special lights and then the hair info tex to map gradients along it's length for colour or opacity?

                      Yes, correct on all counts.

Is there any set date for new release with hair-farm support? I've just finished working on a project with furry animals. And that project shaved 10 years off my life. I'm scheduled for another hair-farm heavy project in October. Is there a way to get build with hair-farm support before October?

It should go officially into the next service pack in the autumn, but if you want to test it sooner, please email me to vlado@chaosgroup.com
