  • Start rendering when slaves/cores are idle at end of IR?

When using DR (but even without DR this would be usable): would it be possible to start rendering buckets as soon as there are cores/slaves that don't have any assigned IR-buckets anymore (at the end of the IR stage)? I know that IR stores spatial data, so it might not be that simple, but maybe rendering could start for buckets that have finished IR buckets on all sides?

If it works this would speed up the total time to render an image. Now the IR has to be completed before rendering starts and that leaves a lot of slaves/cores unused at the end of the IR stage.

We actually had this at one point, but it caused issues - there was no guarantee that the final rendering wouldn't need samples from areas that were not yet computed.
