  • DR compatibility with Deadline

It would be awesome if there was some way that DR could talk to Deadline.

We use our renderfarm to both network render and to DR.

With large scenes, the slaves can't render both a deadline network render and a DR, so we have to clumsily manage what machines are disabled from deadline rendering because someone wants to use DR. of course when they are done, they always forget to give the slaves back to deadline.

I'm wondering if there could be a commandline mode for DR that can be started and stopped and recieve feedback about it's status.
The only other missing part would be the option to set off a DR job via deadline so that it knows what is going on and can schedule resources.

Deadline has the option to split frames if that's any use? It's called tile rendering but beware - it doesn't always turn itself off properly when you disable it to submit a sequence afterwards, you can end up with a crop of your shot.

hmmm I've used DR in deadline no problem, don't remember if I used it in max but for sure it works in maya. Is it simply not working for you?

I think I remember that Qube can do this; not sure about Deadline.

I can submit a job that renders on deadline using DR but that isn't what I want.

I want to be able to use it in the VFB like normal but have the slaves "checked out" of deadlines pool of machines.

You can try to make a DR pool with 5 machines that is not attrib to regular jobs or some trick like that.
What i do is i shutdown 5 machines for people during day, and before leaving i launch slave via monitor manually...
I don't think it is possible to week schedule like in BackBurner

yeah I can do all of those sort of tricks.

It'd just be nice if it could be integrated so that I didn't have to do anything.

              BTW, you can do scheduling.
