  • Wish: Distribution parameter for emitter materials

    Hi,

I found a way to modify the "light" distribution for emitter materials:

It could be great to get a simple option at the material emitter layer to modify the distribution, maybe like it can be done by the dirt shader distribution parameter.

Focusing the emitter light could for example be used for lights like on the top rack of this scene, where the light should go from the rack focused to the ceiling on the opposite side. Here I used a fake by assign an emitter layer to the ceiling material.

For rectangle lights specifically, there is the "directionality" parameter which does the same job. This is possible to do for arbitrary lights too, but the sampling might be very inefficient if the cone is too small.

    Best regards,

Right, for my interior scene I needed a quite high IM subdiv count, but I tried the scene with hundred rectangle lights ... it crashs at Rhino and I suppose so it's difficult to use at 3dsmax too. Or is there a trick for mass light scenes? The focused emitters could be a nice option.

The "directionality" parameter sounds interesting, would be the right tool for the train interior with the special rack lights. I hope it will be available for VfR in the future.

If you're using Rhino, why post in the 3dsmax Wishlist?

Because I think general request for new material/shader are not limited to a single plugin only and need to be implemented at the Vray core and 3dsmax first.
