I'm on the fence about this one.

DNG is an established photography standard, while EXR is an established CG/VFX standard.

So is it an issue of V-Ray needing to support DNG?
Or is it an issue of Lightroom and Camera Raw needing to broaden support for HDR formats?

I can't access EXR channel data in photoshop. Plus I would love to work in camera raw/lightroom for levels/postwork.

Right, that's what I'm trying to say - Photoshop / Lightroom / Camera Raw should be the ones to add support for the industry standard image format of CG/VFX.

I see what you mean. This is close to CG politics

The thing is, I would like this to work, and both of your points will make it work, but having VRay implementing it, will make it happen way sooner than if Adobe has to move.
Plus, this would be one more feature that VRay would have compared to it's competitors.

Whilst I don't disagree, we've been waiting years for it already. I get the impression that it isn't going to happen anytime soon.

              I hope not...
It seemed like Vlado wasn't against the idea at the start.
Let's hope they will see the potential that this will bring to ppl and that, obviously, people are asking for it.

                Hey Vlado,

Just wondering if there was any update for this?
I'm still praying to be able to save as DNG.
It would speed up and make the workflow with adobe products so much easier.

                Cheers

                  Hi Stan,

Unfortunately support for DNG files is not implemented yet. We will do our best to make it available in one of the upcoming service packs.

Maybe it might be easier for Chaos to make a *.vrimg import filter for AE/PS that would be sweet.
                        Cheers,

                          Would be great as well!
But I'm using Lightroom a lot, so this means a import filter for LR as well and a lot of other soft that does support DNGs...

What happens when all those other soft are being updated, chaos should trace that and follow up.

Might just be easier to export as dng and let the rest of the pipeline go in stead of trying to interact with other soft.

By the way, I'm sure this implementation would be like how my partner sees my work : "three click and you let the computer do the rest"
