Material reflection/refraction subdivs as anims

I know this is a bit of a strange on, and no doubt a BAD idea given the possible knock-on effects, but I would like to be able to control the subdivs of vray materials with a bezier controller(ie to instance the parameter between multiple materials); simply for testing various subdivs on multiple materials without having to change the parameter multiple times.
Would this be possible to implement at some point? or would changing the 'type' cause untold pain in terms of third party plugins breaking as a result?
