  • VRay Light Lister Tool and non VRay Lights

    Hi!
Would it be possible to include the VrayShadows Subdivs parameter for non VRay Lights in the VRay Light Lister?
    Great time saver.
    Thanks!
    Dmitry

Yes, will make a note to do that. Thanks for the pointer!

      Vlado,
Could the "store with irradiance" checkbox be added?

It is not impossible... how often do you use it?

        Best regards,

          Quite a lot actually.
I use it mainly on large scenes if I need to speed up the render during testing.
It will also help to visually see what each vraylight is doing in the scene.
I could probably script it quite easy but having it in the VRaylightlister windows would keep it nice and clean.

I think the whole VRayLightLister could definitely use a facelifting. I really like the idea behind it but there are so many missing parameters, missing comfort functions (turn all lights on/of, selected ones only on/of etc), horrible performance with many lights, etc.
As I said I like the tool and use it daily but I am at a point where I honestly consider writing my own LightLister since the VRayLightLister lacks so much stuff.
              Software:
              Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1
              3ds Max 2016 SP4
              V-Ray Adv 3.60.04

              Hardware:
              Intel Core i7-4930K @ 3.40 GHz
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 (4096MB RAM)
              64GB RAM

I am sure it can be done better; you are welcome to try that A tool that you write yourself will almost certainly be more convenient for you than a generic tool. We used the original 3ds Max LightLister as a base, so we've inherited all its shortcomings.

Yeah, I know that the self programmed stuff is always better. But I think a "proper" VRayLightLister would be a tremendous addition. I am aware that this propably is more an Autodesk sort of thing, but nonetheless

I find Lele's VrayLight Monkey very useful (part of Lele's Vray tools). It already includes the "Store with irradiance map" option, plus just about any other light option you could need. Only applies to Vray lights though

Thanks, I'll have a look into it. We would need default light support, too since we are using SpotLights regularly...
