  • Keep Specular option with stored IRmap Lights

Irmap lights are great for scenes with hundreds/thousands of lights but Irmap stored lights don't effect specular.
Taking them out of the irmap makes the render significantly slower.
I normally store them and then have to clone all the lights, take the clones out of the irmap and have them only effect specular. It increases render time but works well and looks almost identical to not stored lights (assuming a good quality irmap) and still renders much faster than brute force lights.

The problem is that you end up with tonnes of lights. Any chance if a light is stored with irmap that you get an option tick box to keep speculars?

It's not impossible, but for speculars, the lights still have to be calculated... what kind of lights do you use? IES?

    Best regards,

I use vray plane lights. As far as I was aware you cannot store ies lights in the irmap ?

      Testing today
      brute force lights 5mins 38sec
      Irmap lights 2mins 27sec
      Irmap+cloned spec lights 3mins 02sec

So yes it took longer but was significantly quicker than brute force lights.
