  • Cavity parameter under VrayMaterial

It will be really great if we have Cavity function under Vray Material.
It can be similar to Zbrush cavity shader.
i am not sure if it will be relativly hard to implement.
    Thanks

    what is cavity?
    can you explain?

    thanks.

      http://209.132.68.66/zbrush2/materials.html

you can read it from here.
it is basicly something like quickdirt plugin for max.
but ofcourse it is not using vertexcolor channel.

It's not too difficult to write an "ambient occlusion" texture map that you can use to achieve these and many other effects...

does this mean that it will be included someday?

            vlado,
            thank you for the reply...
it will be really nice if it is something that you guys can put it in a sec.
It can be a nice property in Vray material as a bonus tool maybe in version 1.5
            Thank you so much.

lol I gotta laugh cause I mentioned this long before the cavity material, ambient occlusion maps and other dirt shaders using ambient occlusion, but could never articulate it well enough. I used an ambient occlusion type of pass for this image:

Pretty simple, just used it for a mask for a mix map. Since the detail is so miniscule, it prolly doesn't work as well as I would have liked.

can you please explain ambient occlusion method deeply, and how you can achive under max. The cavity shader under zbrush is an ambient occlusion method??
it seems, it is really a powerfull tool to create rusted metal and some other stressed surfaces.

Ambient occlusion is basically skylight. However, you can use that not only for illumination, you can use it to alter the surface material properties as well. For example, an ambient occlusion texture map would return values from black to white depending on what part of the sky is seen (perhaps looking only within a certain distance radius, so that objects inside other objects look ok too).

wow.. this is a preety cool stuff. So basicly you are rendering the obj seperatly by skylight and bake the gi on the texture to get the cavities of the obj.
i am hopeing this will be in the Vray material since it is preety simple to implement..
Thanks vlado.. that was really helpfull.
