  • Please add the option "not block other lights" to VRayLight.

Please add the option "not block other lights" to VRayLight.
(The shadow of the light itself is not generated.)

If alpha of texture is used, I know that a light will become transparent.
But probably, it will be more user-friendly to add a simple option.

    Thanx

When would you use this option? You can simply make the light invisible.

I know that Corona has this; but so far noone has requested it for V-Ray. It could be because noone had a specific need for it, or they found other ways to do what they needed.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

This is a request from my customer.
What does it do for erasing the shadow of MeshLight?
Since MeshLight is a fluorescent lamp, it needs to be seen.
      It is this problem mostly.

There is also a method using ObjectProperties by VRayLightMtl.
But it is a problem of MeshLight of VRayLight this time.

Making the mesh light invisible will still cause it to appear in reflections and to generate speculars (there is a separate option to control these things). So I'm not sure what is the point.

My question is, in what practical situation, you need the light to be visible to the camera, reflections and refractions, but not to produce a shadow? And does this practical situation happen often enough to add yet another checkbox?

In any case, you can do what you need if you assign a VRayColor texture to the light, set the color to white, but the alpha to black; it's quite simple.

        Best regards,
        Vlado

The object light needs to seen from a camera. in this case?

          This is a little tricky.
But it may be a rare case that other users to a request cannot be found so that you may say.
This request will become the first case.

          Best wishes,

Ok then; if more people request it, will definitely consider it.

Vlado what about having matte-object properties for VrayLights? That is still necessary sometimes annoyingly, and currently it requires making a VrayLightMtl on a plane to achieve.

It is possible... you need just the "matte" and "alpha contribution" options?

can you not untick 'cast shadows' from the object properties of the light mesh?
I don't use vray mesh lights much
