    A sort of incremental rendering engine would be appreciated
    like the lightscape style or better like fprime for lightwave

          yeah, this would be great, so you could decide, if you stop at this quality, or if you run ou of time, but will get results, then you can stop with worse quality, but you would have a result...

          but i think, this would a lot slower...

          maybe it could be nice, to have different objects, with different qualities... a strange bitmapped surface may do not need so much light information, like a surface which has allways the same color and other setting...
