I'd like a way to save out only the glare/bloom pass without the beauty baked in. I'm new to Vray and was really surprised that this isn't available.

Save out Glare/Bloom ONLY

But that has the beauty baked in, I need only the effect. If you were to add that render element layer over a beauty, the pixels would be doubling up across the entire image.
Look at the upper right of the attached image where the glare spills over from a region render. This is what I'm talking about.

Thanks for the clarification.
You want a render element that has only data about the object/light and its bloom/glare effect, something like the Mask element that includes the effect. I have to check with our developers if this can be implemented and then can add a feature request in our system.
The available options allows you to get only a mask from the high intensity objects and then apply the effect in post. Something that you can do now is to render a separate pass only for the objects with bloom/glare effect.
I will keep you posted.

Hi,
the thing is that the glare effects, that you see, do not exist alone, without the original image. The method do not just pick some bright locations to blend glare image with. The lens effects are computed as a filtering of the whole image. This means that the glare pattern is applied literally to every pixel. The effects and the image are unseparable. You can, for instance, put some sphere light in an empty scene and turn the effects on, to create similar looking shapes.
Best regards,
Asen

So you're saying it's not possible to save out only a bloom/glare pass and there are no plans to implement it?
I see what you're saying by rendering an exposed light by itself, but it's a huge benefit to have the effect affect reflections, refractions, environment maps, etc.Last edited by atrask@hksinc.com; 02-09-2015, 02:46 PM.

That would be awesome!!
I'd be happy to test a build, just let me know!Last edited by atrask@hksinc.com; 03-09-2015, 08:33 AM.
