  • possible to get prt support for vray instancer?

    Heya folks!

Just wondering if it'd be possible to get krakatoa prt object support for vray instacer? The thinkbox guys have some great particle manipulation and generation tools which are far better threaded than particle flow - would it be difficult to support them?

    Cheers!

It does require some effort (i.e. as soon as there are external caches involved, there are a number of things that must be supported, like Asset Tracking, cache frame offset etc), plus I'm trying to keep the instancer simple. Will think about it, but in the meantime, the sources are included with the V-Ray installation, maybe you can find someone to code this for you? We can help if needed.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

All good - we've to hire a proper pipeline developer in our place now, hopefully we can find someone comfortable enough with graphics and c to do it!

IMHO it would make more sense to get the Thinkbox people to export some interface from their PRT objects which VrayInstancer can consume as a Particle object.
If VrayInstancer consumed the PRT files directly then you would not be able to take advantage of the particle manipulation tools that the Krakatoa stack offers (e.g. MagmaModifier). You would have to re-export modified PRTs for each change, complicating the workflow.

          That could work too...
