  • Vray Rounded Corner - Radius mappable

Just been testing the new Rounded Corner Technology... really really cool, works great on CAD, I've already found an instance where it would have saved us a tone of time on a project but I also found an issue. The object had fine lettering and some chunkier edges as well, I need to have different rounded corners on different parts of the model.

    Can the radius be mappable??

I do find the logic of putting this in the bump slot a bit weird... as you either need to then put your regular bump map in the VrayBumpMtl or put your rounded edge map in the VrayBumpmtl so there's always going to be another level of material nesting.

A thought would be to have an extra material, like the VRayBumpMtl, maybe a VRayRoundedEdgeMtl? I didn't sue it yet so I don't know what problems one may encounter, just a thought. Glad to hear tho its working so good, that feature is really good for us, too!

It can be made mappable, yes. However if you are using it to blend between meshes it is your responsibility to make sure the textures on both objects match.

I'll be adding an additional bump slot into the edges texture itself so that you can put your regular bump texture there.

What would happen if they didn't match?? That might give us some cool artistic effects?

Will we have include/excludes soon too?

Our NYC team love this feature already, it's just seriously saved their bacon as the intersections are animated and they can do things which would have been impossible any other way.

The Additional bump map sounds perfect.

The include/exclude lists are on the "to do", but we'll see if we can do this for the official release.

          Best regards,

Is there a working version of this floating around yet?
I tried cheating it with a mix, but that doesnt work

Try a Composite Map with the EdgesTex on top set to multiply.

A VRay dirt as mask in a mix seem to work for regular map and rounded corners
