The ability to pick PRT particles with the vray instancer would allow to import huge amount of particles from other apps and render instances scatter on them with vray in max. It would also allow to use the free part of Krakatoa to scatter particle in volumes and surfaces without passing by the too slow pflow.
There is currently no working solution that I know that would allow to render millions of instances on particles without going above 100 Gb of ram and in a timely manner.
