  • Min/Max AA subdivs per object

    Hi,

In my scene (Some Interior render) I have extremly detailed object (something like carpet).
I got Vray 3.3.05. My AA Settings are 1/24. I use new method of rendering with auto subdivs and my MSR is 6.
Everthing on my scene is rendering very fast and on sample rate pass only few places are red, but when it comes to this detailed object it's using all 24 AA subdivs and is rendering very slow and additionally it also covers a lot of image space.

My question: Is it possible to set maximum AA subdivs for only this object to lower number that it can render faster, leaving rest in old settings?
Carpet doesn't need to be noise free, because it won't be even noticeable, but rest of my scene is working well and I'd like to leave it as it is.

    Hope you guys understand me.

    Thanks in advance,
    Best Regards

I've requested this i think multiple times and i hope it's in the works, but i reckon it's that kind of difficult hacks to achieve.
There's a global subdv multiplier in the vrayobject properties panel and it addresses secondary rays (glossy, gi, etc), maybe it can help you as well.

I'd be inclined to up your max aa for the shot full stop - vray won't force anything to use more aa if it doesn't need it. The nice thing about the new shade rate is that if an object needs maybe 5 steps of aa with your shade rate of 6, it'll still take the same number of aa steps even if you up your max aa to a higher number. You could raise your max aa to a high enough number that the carpet works better but use it's subdiv multiplier as kage mentions to reduce the amount of shade rate samples it uses.

        Thank you to the answer.
This improvement would be very useful. I have already set the subdivs multipllier to 0.0, but it didn,t change rendering time much.
