  • Preload Animated Vray Proxy

We have to add animated Vray Proxy (of peoples) in our archviz animations, that's part of our daily workflow.
But once we have loads of them in the scene, it just grind to a halt and take forever to change frame.
I was wondering if it was possible to pre-load the vray proxys animations somehow so that the scroll through the timeline would be fast.
Make preview doesn't cut it really as we have multiple cams and for each cam it would need to reload the same frame range.

IE : we have that one cam here that is taking 20-30 sec per frame to make preview and it has 380 frames so is taking hours to make preview. That jobs has 21 cams...

    Any ideas?

in cases like this ( and yes, pre-loading would be great) it helps to set up a local cache of the proxies, ideally in a fast ssd. you can use something like allways sync. to automate this to all your renderboxes.

That's just a workaround that is bandaging only slightly the issue (it might be faster but wont be drastically different as it needs to process the cache by the cpu anyways) and when working with a team and a renderfarm of 50 nodes, this isn't a viable solution. specially with jobs like these where you have 21 cams on site

      Thanks for the suggestion anyways!

Yes, we have something like this in Maya (caching the preview in RAM), we probably need to set it up in 3ds Max as well.

        Best regards,

If it's alembic you can import and switch to performance mode... Only workaround i have for that right now too.

            That would be great!

My make preview just finished : 2h56min for 380 frames

              Hi Vlado,
              Any news on this?

I'm struggling to get simple animatics out from max preview, it takes like 50 min to save out a 400 frame fly through animation.
I have multiple cameras, it's really hard for us right now.

If you can get me a scene where we can reproduce the slow-down we will look into ways to speed it up. For example I know we already did some improvements for Alembic files with lots of objects in them, but your case may be different.

                Best regards,
                Vlado
