  • 100% transparent material

    Hi all,
I have this problem for a few years now, When I use a 100% transparent glass is it possible to see in the viewport ? They usually disappear and in complicated scenes the edged faces could be difficult to select. OR sometimes i even forget that an object is there until i render!
It's not a deal breaker but It would have been great if i could see the object a bit. Maybe if the 100% could be 90% for the viewport.

Hm, maybe we could clamp the transparency for the viewports...

    Best regards,
    Vlado

      +1 on this.

I often put it to 90% transparent only because I want to see it in my viewport when working. Then putting on a render just to come back the day after at work to notice that mistake. Have happened a couple times. ^^ Blunder on my part, but the cap on 90% viewport transparancy would help.

As a workaround you can set the refract colour to grey for example, and put a white vraycolor as the refract map.

Thank you Vlado, @ alexP yes that's a good idea for now. It's one of these small things that you see everyday but it could make a difference, I work for quite a long time without active shade and even rendering and take some important decisions as I model and experiment with ideas. A viewport a bit closer to what you get could be nice.
Don't take me wrong I am really happy with vray + phoenix !

In the meantime, nice tip @AlexP. Cheers!

Wondering if this idea is still being considered? Would make things much easier!

I usually set glass objects to see-through (via Alt-X) to become visible in the viewport, but yeah, it would be better if there was a way to have it show up in the viewport by itself.

This is exactly what i do to make them visible in viewport!

Yes alt-x works too ! Thank you , i usually set up a shell material with two vray sub-materials (viewport / render) for transparent and textured light materials which i can see in the viewport properly. Still a few unnecessary steps to be honest.
