We use the VRaySoftbox texture very much here, and it's really amazing. You got all the stuff you need to manipulate or imitate a real light source with bulb, etc.
Now what would be even more nuts is if you could adjust the softness/falloff of each handle for example in the U/V vignette. Kind of like the "softness" behaves in the hotspot section.
Basic but nice: Have each handle have a linear/ease_in/ease_out/... setting just like the regular GradientRamp map in 3ds max. Maybe for starters even for the whole gradient an interpolation setting.
Really cool: Have each handle have actual handles (like bezier handles) so I can adjust the softness/falloff by them. Handleception!
