  • Render duration in EXR Metadata

I love the Metadata VRay saves into the rendered EXRs. Could you insert the render duration and the name of the machine?
Would be very helpful for debugging and problem solving on the farm.
And we could look much for render duration in old projects, easing planing.

Cool, I didn't know that there is that Metadata in EXRs. Do you have to specifically enable it? Can't see it in the windows explorer or in bridge.
    Software:
    Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1
    3ds Max 2016 SP4
    V-Ray Adv 3.60.04

    Hardware:
    Intel Core i7-4930K @ 3.40 GHz
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 (4096MB RAM)
    64GB RAM

You can see and use it in Nuke.

        +1.
I'd love also to have the name of the max file that generated the render.

Further to this "plain" render (saved from the vray VFB raw file output. It's the one we have any control over, unlike the max standard one.) metadata, one could easily add a VrayOptionRE and insert as much custom metadata (key=value pair, as shown in the link below) as one wishes, in the worst case scenario with a pre-render script so to detect and fill the metadata string to then paste into the RE box.
EDIT:the exr/vrayinfo/filename key in my case is empty as i never saved it, so it was technically "undefined".

TL: DR: save with the VRay Raw Image file into EXR.

for example, this could run as a pre-render script, to produce these results:

            metadataWriter_001.zip

            REALLY easy to implement.

Thanks Lele, I see now that we have been limited (a lot) by the standard max buffer when saving files.
The problem for us is that we are kind of forced to use that since, as far as i know, we still can't split render elements in specific separated folders. I reckon we could possibly write something for deadline, but for our messy situation i think it would turn out even worst.
Will it ever be possible to respect the render elements outputs paths? I asked this so many times i'm starting to think it'll never happen

split to folders is on the to-do list, yes.
You could render a vrimg, and run a very simple post-render maxscript to first split out the layers, and then move them appropriately, even now.
You'd have to invoke the vrimg2exr.exe from the tools folder in the V-Ray install, but it's really not complicated.

                  That's excellent to know, thanks.
As said, i'm sure we could find a workaround, even directly on the farm with deadline, i'd be just worried about make it work specifically here but that's just another completely different topic
