  • Volumegrid Refresh Button

A lot of times you need to reload your scene for the volumegrid cache to refresh. It would be nice to have an 'Update Cache' button to avoid this.

Is there a maxscript function I can tie to a custom rollout in the meantime?

    Hello,

Can you give us a little bit more info about the refreshing? What is your setup? Do you export the files while you're reading them in the VolumeGrid?
If you just scrub the timeline it should update the preview.

Yes I'm updating them in fumefx while the project is open. Scrubbing the timeline doesn't always seem to work and especially causes me problems with checker-boarding when using distributed rendering.

EDIT: Once again today while testing fumefx sims, volume grid required a scene re-opening to update.

Can you make a screen capture so we can see what's happening? We couldn't reproduce it in here.

I don't have time currently to set up a screen capture. An important detail i forgot to mention however is that I'm referencing a single frame cache set to load nearest. Perhaps that's causing the cache to not update?

Using this setup indeed won't refresh the file correctly. I'll add this as a feature request in our list.

            Thank you,

              Thank you,
Great! For anybody who experiences this issue, a workaround that's very simple and doesn't require reloading the file is to manually remove a character from the input rollout file path, click elsewhere so the grid de-loads, then re-enter the character you removed. That's the simplest way I've found to update the cache in this situation.
